Brake Pads

Brake pads come in a range and different levels of quality. At German Car Depot, we understand that safety is our FIRST priority, and having quality products is important for your safety and essential for your BMW. We use original OEM factory brake pads for all BMW models.

Brake Discs / Rotors
The most common issue with brake rotors is what is called warpage which is a technical term for brake rotor wear and tear. When Warpage has occurred, you feel a pulsating sensation as soon as you press the brake pedal. The harder you push the pedal the more the pulsation. The brake rotors work in line with the brake calipers and pads in order to slow your car when you press on the brake. Because heat is a direct relation to your BMW stopping –  all rotors wear out. German Car Depot inspects your rotors for warpage, cracks, hardening, and wear thickness.

Brake Pad Sensors
The brake pad sensor measures the amount of life left in the brake pads. When the pads wear down they rub on the rotors/brake disks. The Brake pad sensors will then send a signal telling you its time to replace the pads. The sensors must be replaced at the same time as the Brake pads.

Brake Fluid Flush
Brake fluid is a hydraulic fluid specifically formulated to withstand the extreme pressures and temperatures of your braking system. Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years or when the moisture is at no more than 2%. BMW approved Brake Fluid – DOT 4 Low Viscosity should be used. The cost of a Brake Flush average anywhere from $89 to $159.

ABS Unit
If your ABS is not working correctly there may be an issue in your control unit. The ABS gear control unit processes information from the various sensors to properly modulate hydraulic pressure.

ABS Sensors and Relays
The ABS sensors and relays measure the different information within the braking system and send the information to the ABS control unit. If your ABS is starting to malfunction it could be your sensors or relays.

BMW Brake Master Cylinder
When you hit the brakes the master cylinder converts the motion from the brake pedal being depressed into hydraulic pressure and sends that hydraulic pressure out for distribution. If your brakes are starting to feel spongy it could be the master cylinder, air, or moisture in your brake fluid.

ABS Control Module – Anti-Lock Brakes
If your ABS is not working correctly it might be one of your control units.  a red light or yellow light will appear on your dash.  On modern-day cars, the steering is also controlled with the ABS control module. It processes information from the various sensors to properly modulate hydraulic pressure.

Brake Master Cylinders
When you hit the brakes the master cylinder converts the motion from the brake pedal being depressed into hydraulic pressure and sends that hydraulic pressure out for distribution. If your brakes are starting to feel spongy it could be the master cylinder or air or moisture in your brake fluid.

Brake Hoses and Lines
Brake hoses and lines connect the master cylinder to the calipers. Over time, brake lines can eventually wear out, develop cracks, cause leaks, and even explode due to fatigue. They should be checked whenever your BMW is on a lift as part of a normal inspection.
