Thinking About Trading-in Your VW or Audi to the New Car Dealer ?

Maybe you are thinking about using your VW or Audi as a trade-in on a newer car. This is usually one of the more convenient ways to sell your car but unless you really know what you’re doing there is a good chance you will not be getting as much for your car as you think.

When you walk into a new car dealership, one of the first things a car salesman will want to know is whether you have a vehicle to trade-in.

There are a few reasons for this. The salesman will ask for your keys so they can have the Sales Manager appraise your car. No longer having your car and keys in your possession will put the selling dealer more in control of the car sale. There could even be a physiological effect on some people where now they feel more committed to making a purchase at that dealership.

Another trick of the car trade-in game is if you decide to leave the dealership without buying another car, you still have to talk with the Sales Manager to get your car keys back.

A dealer needs to make money on your trade-in and will offer you less than it’s actually worth, if you decide to negotiate their low trade-in offer you are now negotiating on two figures: the value of your trade-in and the selling price of the new vehicle.

If you are also talking to the salesman about your monthly payments and down payment, then you are negotiating on four figures - and that's what the dealer wants. The more numbers you talk about, the better chance the dealer has of confusing you. It doesn't matter how sharp you are, it’s never a good idea trying to beat a professional at his own game.

The best way is to keep your trade-in separate from your new car purchase.
Maybe stop by a dealership the day before and ask them how much they would pay for your car or even stop by a few dealers including CarMax and get competing prices.

Also call German Car Depot and tell us about your car or send an email - Include the year, make, model, mileage, condition and the amount you would like to sell if for.
